Our Mission


The Indian Student Association plans to provide a platform for continuous interaction among students at the University of Louisville (U of L), KY with a goal of improving student life. We serve to represent and promote the common interests of the student body, create a spirit of togetherness, and showcase India’s rich cultural heritage in a variety of international events. President

Harshal Shah is a Senior from Louisville, KY studying Finance at the University of Louisville. Harshal's family is from Mumbai. His favorite part about ISA is the family presence that it brings to him on campus. Harshal is also a member of the Studnet Actvity Board (SAB) and he is a member of the UofL Bhangra dance team.

Vice President

Poonum Haldankar is a junior here at UofL. She is majoring in Economics and minoring in Biology. In her free time she likes to sketch, paint, or go for a run! She loves the way this ISA spreads cultural diversity on this campus through its different events and functions and she is so glad that she can be a part of it!

Secretary

Chandni Bhikha is a junior Biology and Sociology major here at the University of Louisville. Her family is from Gujarat, India. Chandni's favorite part about ISA is that it allows her to connect with her fellow Indian students across campus! It also allows her to showcase and maintain her culture to her peers through the events we plan. Her favorite event is Colours! In her free time, she can usually be found watching Bollywood movies, swimming, dancing Bhangra, or reading! Chandni loves being apart of ISA and hopes everyone gets to experience such an amazing part of campus!

Treasurer

Jarui Desai is a senior studying Finanace and Computer Information Systems here at the University of Louisville. Jarui's family is from Mumbai, India. Her favorite part about ISA is that it gives her an opportunity to meet and connect with other Indian students on campus, while actively engaging the student population with events such as Jalsa and Colors that teach them more about the Indian culture. Jarui is also involved with the Chi Omega Sorority, Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity, Pencils of Promise, and is a REACH Ambassador. You can reach Jarui at JMDESA01@louisville.edu.

Public Relations Officer

Asha Ramesh is a Sophomore at UofL studying Psychology. She's from Northern Kentucky. In her free time she likes playing with her pets, riding horses, hanging out with friends and she's obssessed with elephants. She's part of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Fraternity and a member of the Bhangra team. She loves ISA because the group has a strong cultural connection that she was looking to understand and experience after coming to UofL.

Cultural Secretary

Samantha Islam is a sophomore from Louisville studying Bioengineering. Samantha's family is from Bangladesh. When she is not studying she loves to cook, dance to Bollywood music and have adventures with her friends. Her favorite part about ISA is that is has allowed her to meet people that share a similar culture as her which has kept her roots in tact. Also through the events of ISA such as Jalsa and Colours she has been able to share her culture with her peers. She has met some of her best friends through ISA and cannot wait to see what the year holds for ISA!

Cultural Secretary

Rishi Jonala is a Junior here at UofL. He is a Biology major on a pre-medical track. In his free time Rishi likes to hang out with friends and play sports. He enjoys communicating with people and thinks ISA is a great way to connect with new people that share a similar background. Overall, because of ISA, he has met some of his closest friends.

Historian

Sarika Polcum is a sophomore here at UofL. She is majoring in Biology and minoring in Latin American Studies and Psychology. Sarika enjoys painting, taking photos, and eating in her free time. Since high school, she has felt the strong presence that ISA has in the Louisville community and knew that she wanted to be apart of it. Sarika loves how involving ISA is with all its members and wants to spread that involvement even further this year. From Jalsa to Colours to Movie Nights, she can’t wait to put on more culturally engaging events. She says two of the biggest things ISA has given her are long lasting friendships and a big brown family!

Webmaster

Saipruthvi Vanaparthy is a Sophomore here at UofL. He is studying Electical and Computer Engineering. Sai enjys hiking, playing sports, and tinkering with electronics in his free time. He was always involved in his local Indian community and knew he wanted to be part of ISA in college. He loves how ISA is inviting to everyone on campus and how easy it is to get involved. He looks forward to putting on more cultural events and the people and experiences that ISA will bring!
